Calling on Starbeck People to take Action on Litter- a plea from Christine Stewart Starbeck in Bloom

wpf1d76eaa.jpg

Hookstone Cub Scouts .  joined Starbeck in Bloom to tackle the litter on the playing field behind the school. This is twelfth year that we have had  help and what did we find! Look at the pile that the council have moved away for us.Now  its your turn !Litter is a constant problem in all areas of the country but we in Starbeck have been working hard to eliminate it .These young Cub Scouts are leading the way but they are not the only ones. We have many secret litter pickers-all our responsible dog walkers pick up litter on a daily basis , many do it long before most of us are out of bed! One lady diligently cleans up St Johns empty site and one picks all of Bogs Lane every Monday morning! And yet despite our two Council Street Cleansers and all these dedicated volunteers we still have litter. Obviously the problem lies with those who DROP it . So come on Starbeck –think before you drop and if you do see it please pick it up !We have the most litter bins in the district so use them.

SUPERB SHOW EXHIBITS MAKE STUNNING

DISPLAY IN STARBECK

The 10th annual Starbeck annual fruit, flower and vegetable show on Saturday at the Methodist church in Starbeck was bigger than ever, writes Christine Stewart . The tables of prize-winning onions, carrots, dahlias, fuchsias, cakes and embroidery completely filled the hall and the church. There were nearly 300 entries in all, making fir a stunning display. The mayor of harrogate, Coun Pat Jones , opened the show and enjoyed walking around  seeing the entries and meeting the entrants. There was a display by Starbeck group of the  Yorkshire country women's association, Vocational skills showed off their bird feeders and in support of  Bettys and Taylors Rainforest Appeal there was an activity corner for children making forest animals. Refreshments were supplied  by Taylors of Harrogate.

Starbeck in Bloom would like to thank all who entered, visited and helped – without you all, there would be no show.
